WebSep 6, 2011 · Some mechanics claim that Kayaba 01-labeled a 5wt-is thicker than Showa SS-7 (and other 5wt cartridge fork fluids). They call it a "thick" 5wt or claim that it is really a 7wt. But, if you call Kayaba they will tell you that Showa's SS-7 is thicker than 01 oil. Unfortunately, you have no choice but to let them call it what they want. WebMay 16, 2012 · Looking at the Showa info, seems something is off there with the ss-15 (20.07) being above the ss-7 (16.44) but below the 8 (36.47). The reality is I couldn't tell the difference between brands doing a test ride, other than weight, but it's fun to look into this stuff.
